Talking about environmental impact without mentioning money is just a pretense.
Because where a company invests its money, it also takes a stand. 🌍
"1% for the Planet " is often interpreted as philanthropy: a donation, a responsible gesture, something that “boosts one’s reputation.” In reality, it is a much more profound and less comfortable decision: it is a political stance in the business sense of the term.
Not partisan politics, but politics based on priorities. Allocating a portion of revenue to environmental causes means affirming that impact matters—even when it isn’t required, even when it doesn’t generate an immediate return, and even when it affects profit margins. 📉
That has real consequences. It means sticking to the commitment even in adverse situations, explaining it internally, defending it to partners, and accepting that not all decisions are made based on short-term thinking. 🫱🏻🫲🏻
That's why not all companies can or want to do it. And it's better to be honest about it than to sugarcoat it with aspirational rhetoric. 🌱
Joining 1% for the Planet doesn't make a company "better." It makes it a company that chose not to be neutral. And today, neutrality is starting to be seen as evasion.
Take a look at your current budget and ask yourself honestly: What causes is your company supporting today through its financial decisions, even if it hasn't explicitly stated so? 🤔
Money is already making its move, with or without your permission.
